Ropar October 4:

Two leopards were spotted in Anandpur Sahib and Kiratpur Sahib areas, sending a wave of fear among residents living in the area. Though no incident of these wild animals attacking humans have been reported so far, there have been cases in which the leopards did kill cattle in these areas.

Villagers have complained that their domestic animals have been killed and eaten by these wild animals. Garib Das of Nichli Dahani village said that the leopard dragged his cattle outside the house. Similarly, Nangal Singh, another villager, said that incidents of lambs and cattle being preyed upon by the leopard had been reported from his village.

Balwinder Singh, Ropar wildlife warden, said he has received a report of leopards roaming in these areas four days back, after which they have laid traps to catch these wild animals ."Two traps have been laid in Dashmesh Academy in Anandpur Sahib and NFL factory in Nangal," he said. According to wildlife officials, leopards from Dhar area near Naina Devi in nearby Himachal Pradesh often visit these low lying areas at the start of winter season in search of food and water.
