The CPI, the CPM and the CPI (ML) have joined hands to fight the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in the state against the Harish Rawat-led Congress and the BJP. The party leaders at a joint meeting held here today decided to hold a protest at the beginning of the Vidhan Sabha session slated to take place at Gairsain on November 1 against the Congress-led state government. They said the state government had failed to address the grievances of villagers living in higher reaches.
The party leaders alleged corruption had become rampant in the state. The tall claims made by the state government to curb corruption in government offices have proved futile.
According to them, Left parties are the only substitute for voters as residents had felt cheated on many occasion, even during the BJP government in the state.
They said the BJP and Congress governments in the state did nothing to speed up development. The party activists alleged that the government had not initiated any potent measures to address the grievances of villagers, who faced the brunt of natural calamities. The condition of basic amenities such as roads, potable water, schools, and health centres had worsened for the last 15 years.
They criticised the government for not tightening the noose around the land and mining mafia. The crime rate had drastically increased over a span of 15 years in the state, they added.
The Left activists expressed concern that it had become extremely difficult for labourers, farmers, and the poor to survive as the prices of essential commodities had risen manifold in last one year. Samar Bhandari, Vijay Rawat, Anand Singh, Rajendra Negi, Rajendra Pratholi and Indresh Maikhuri were present.
