KBC4 on Sony marks Bachchan's return to TV

MUMBAI: The decade-old story of the KBC-Amitabh Bachchan saga, narrated through the pages of the Indian history, shall remain embossed on the audience minds forever. And to reignite the same blaze amongst viewers that it had created in the year 2000, the KBC-Amitabh Bachchan combo will return to the television screens. However, this time the platform will be Sony and not Star Plus.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will host the fourth season of the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? which is expected to go on air by the year-end.
Said Bachchan, "I have been given a list of dos and don'ts by the channel and I am happy to be back on KBC."
According to channel executives, the format of the show will undergo quite a few changes, the details of which will be divulged later.
Produced by Big Synergy, KBC was the first appearance of Amitabh Bachchan on Indian television. The show was hugely popular and attracted audiences from all age groups. Not only did it help Amitabh Bachchan relaunch his Bollywood career but also aided Star Plus to become India's number one network.
In 2005, the show was restarted after a four-year hiatus, and renamed Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya (Kaun Banega Crorepati the Second, or KBC2) in which the final prize amount was doubled to Rs 20 million. It was abruptly ended by Star Plus after Amitabh Bachchan fell ill in 2006.
Star roped in Shah Rukh Khan to host the third season of the show and the grand prize amount of Rs 20 million was still used in KBC3.
However, in its fourth spell, Sony has decided to retain the two prime elements of the debut season - Amitabh Bachchan and Rs 10 million as the grand prize.
