A major portion of the Kasauli-Parwanoo road in Industrial Area caved in due to digging work today. The Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) has been carrying out the work near Dhagger village. The road was closed to traffic following the cave-in. The movement of industrial goods also remained hit.
As many as 100 industrial units which lie in the affected area are now unable to ply trucks to transport goods and raw material. HIMUDA staff cleared the land for setting up a housing colony, but the digging of the roadside has worsened the situation, further damaging the road.
Rakesh Bansal, general secretary of the Parwanoo Industries Association, said a major portion of the road had caved in due to the ill-planned digging alongside the road by HIMUDA.
“Huge cracks have developed on the road and it has been closed for the medium and heavy vehicular movement,” he said. About 100 industrial units are now unable to ply trucks for getting raw material and dispatch finished goods.
Bansal said despite taking up the issue with HIMUDA authorities, no urgency had been shown in addressing the issue and the officials concerned said it would take a month to repair the road.
The members of the association today wrote to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and requested his intervention in the matter.
They said the Parwanoo Industrial Area road connected half of the Parwanoo township and there was no alternate route. Therefore the road should be repaired at the earliest.
They requested the Chief Minister to direct the authorities concerned, including the Public Works Department (PWD) and HIMUDA officials, to restore the traffic on the road.
