When officers faced public anger
Agitated residents of Karnataka’s Koppal town pushed two municipal engineers into a water-logged pothole for teaching them a lesson as an elderly motorist of the neighbourhood fell into the same pothole on Monday and sustained minor injuries. Mallapa, the motorist was crossing the area on his bike when the bike skid and slipped into the pothole. Potholes and road damages have been fatal on many occasions, poor roads are a phenomenon across India, in particular, the metro cities. However, the problem is acute in Bengaluru, which is also in Karnataka, given the huge rise in population and increase in the number of vehicles.
Unfair to vent their anger on officers?
After registering complaints, two engineers arrived to see the spot and they had to face the ire of the locals. They dragged the engineers into the muck but later pulled them up. Apparently, the pothole has been created because of underground drainage work that has been going for long, resulting in the collapse of the road in that particular area. Prolonged and delayed projects have worsened the traffic problems in Bengaluru.
