Jitan Ram Manjhi-led Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) today announced its second list of seven candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections. The party, which made public its first list of 13 candidates on Friday, will contest in 20 of 243 constituencies as per seat-sharing with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The seven candidates announced by Manjhi today included Lovely Anand from Shivhar, Sharim Ali (Bela), Jewa Khatun (Jokihaat), Mukesh Kumar, alias Krishna Yadav, (Sherghati), Manju Devi (Singheshwar), Nutan Paswan (Masaudhi) and Naresh Shaw from the Shekhpura constituency.
Manjhi has fielded 13 seating MLAs, considered close aides of the former Chief Minister, which five will contest the elections on the BJP’s symbol. Three candidates — Brishan Patel (Vaishali), Ajit Kumar (Kanti) and Shahid Ali Khan (Sursand) — hail from northern part of Bihar. Six candidates, including Manjhi and his son Santosh Kumar Suman, and HAM state president Shakuni Chaudhary and his son Rohit Kumar will fight the elections from south Bihar.
Though HAM is yet to announce the candidates who will fight on the BJP’s symbol, party sources have said Nitish Mishra, Raju Singh, Binay Bihari and Ajay Pratap Singh are the likely names. Manjhi has strived hard to balance the caste, minority, and Dalit equation even in his small chunk of leaders.
Manjhi is in fray from the Makhdumpur constituency while his son Santosh Kumar Suman is contesting from the Kutuma constituency.
