Chandigarh October 10:

A jewellery shop in Punjab's Patiala district was looted of ornaments worth Rs.15 million by armed youths Saturday, police said.

The incident took place at Ganpati Jewellers in the main market of Samana town in Patiala district, 110 km from here. The shop owner told police that one youth came to his shop Saturday morning soon after the shop had opened and asked for a bracelet.

As the owner was showing the bracelet, four other youths entered the shop and took out their weapons. They forced the jeweller to hand over all the gold and ornaments, valued at over Rs.15 million, to them. The youths then escaped in a car parked outside.

Punjab police reached the shop after being informed, no arrests have been made so far. Shopkeepers in the town said that there was growing insecurity among them and police have failed to curb lawlessness.
