Women who wear revealing clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes, a senior Iranian cleric has said. Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi's comments follow a warning by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that a quake is certain to hit the capital Tehran and that many residents should relocate.
Iranian clerics have blamed provocative dress and promiscuous behavior of women in Iran for that country’s earthquakes. They did not blame Iranian men, or engage in any soul searching about human rights abuses, stolen elections or miscarriages of justice that might have contributed to divine wrath. “In a prayer sermon, the cleric said: 'Many women who do not dress modestly... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which increases earthquakes.'Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Sedighi is Tehran’s acting Friday prayer leader.”
