The Communist Party of India (CPI) began an indefinite hunger strike before the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Fazilka, today demanding justice in different police cases in the district. Hans Raj Golden, general secretary, Fazilka district CPI unit; Surinder Singh Dhandian, district president, Kisan Sabha; Manga Ram, district president, Khet Mazdoor Sabha; farmer leaders Krishan Dharmuwala and Sona Singh sat on dharna today.
Surinder Singh Dhandian and Hans Raj Goden alleged that a theft case of Kathgarh village, an assault on labourer in Jaimalwala village and a rape case of Noorpur village are yet to be solved.
They alleged the accused were let off at the behest of ruling party leaders. They alleged that some innocent persons were being implicated in false cases.
The protesters have also demanded that action be taken against officials of the District Manager office, Industries Department, Fazilka, for their alleged involvement in illegal sand mining in the district. Hans Raj said the CPI leaders had a recording which showed the involvement of these officials in illegal sand mining which would be produced before the high court.
The left party leaders have demanded that justice be delivered to victims, otherwise their agitation would continue.
