Hundreds stranded after accident in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: As many as six express and seven passenger trains were cancelled after a truck fell onto a goods train from an overhead bridge in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district Monday morning, killing the driver of the truck and damaging the rail track.

Rail traffic between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in coastal Andhra Pradesh was thrown out of gear following the accident near Rajahmundry.

According to police, the truck carrying iron rods lost control and fell on to the goods train, damaging the engine and two carriages.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Vijayawada railway station as authorities announced the cancellation of train services.

The trains coming from Chennai and Hyderabad and proceeding towards Visakhapatnam were also stopped at Vijayawada.
