HOLI CELEBRATED WITH TRADITIONAL FERVOUR IN PUNJAB, HARYANA

Chandigarh March 23:
Holi, the festival of colours, was celebrated with traditional fervour across Punjab and Haryana on Saturday.
At the Attari borderpost in Amritsar, BSF tro o p s were seen splashing and applying the traditional 'gulal' (coloured powder) on each other. They also performed traditional 'bhangra' dance and exchanged sweets with their Pakistani counterparts, the Rangers, at the international border.
A delegation of girl students from Lahore, which crossed over to the Indian side today, also exchanged greetings with BSF personnel at Attari. Thousands of devotees thronged various temples in Punjab and Haryana. The Golden Temple (Harmandar Sahib) in Amritsar witnessed a huge rush of people.
Though Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal spent some time with his family to celebrate the festival, it was work as usual for him later on. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda did not celebrate Holi this year due to demise of a close relative recently.
In Chandigarh, thousands of youth took to streets riding on scooters and motorcycles, in most cases without helmets, to celebrate the occasion. Revelers, especially children, had positioned themselves on rooftops throwing coloured water on passersby. Chandigarh Police had set up several 'nakas' to check hooliganism, rowdiness and traffic violations.
