Locals of
Himachal Pradesh's Sangla village
have urged the state government
to take adequate steps to avert
large scale damage that could be
caused due to floods.
Sachin Negi, vice chief of the
village, said that the residents live
under constant fear of floods, and
asked the state government to
take up the task of constructing
check dams with an aim to
prevent damage caused due to
floods.
"The village is under the fear of
flood and it damages our crop,
which is the economic backbone
of our village. It also affects our
future generation. As you can see,
the crops are destroyed due to
flood water," Negi said.
"The government should take
measures to prevent further
damage. The government should
put in place proper crate wires
and the village should be
channelised," he added.
Meanwhile, the vice-chairperson
of Block Development Committee,
Kanta Laxmi, said that every year
the villagers incur huge losses, as
their apple orchards are washed
away in the floodwater.
"This village is affected by flood
during the rainy season every
year and villagers constantly live
under the fear of floods. The
gardens, farms and houses get
washed away in floods every
year. So, we are trying to reach
out to the government for getting
some assistance," said Laxmi.
