Chandigarh September 20:
Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh have been experiencing heavy rainfall since Wednesday. As a result, low-lying areas have been inundated and also crops have been destroyed. Bajra and paddy crops were ready for harvesting.
Major rivers in these States like Yamuna, Sutlej, Beas, Ravi and Ghaggar, as also their tributaries and canals are swollen due to the incessant rains. The authorities have sounded an alert in villages along the embankments. Paddy and bajra which were brought to the grain markets for sale by the farmers were damaged and if the rains continue it could lead to major losses, said officials, according to reporters.
Heavy rainfall was reporetd in Panchkula, Mohali, Gurdaspur, Phagwara, Ambala, Jind, Hisar and Sonepat.
