Ambala March 29:
The hearing of cases of murder and rape related to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was today temporarily shifted to the ASP's office here from the Special CBI Court due to security reasons.
According to official sources, the Ambala Deputy Commissioner had written a letter to the Chief Secretary to shift the hearing of cases of Singh from the regular court of CBI to some confined premises for security purpose. The Chief Secretary had referred the case to the High Court.
Singh enjoys a 'Z plus' security cover in view of the various threat perceptions to him. Meanwhile, defense counsel Surya Prakash filed an application in the CBI court today requesting it to adjourn the hearing as a case for quashing of the FIR registered against Singh was already pending for April 2 in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
CBI Judge R K Saini adjourned the hearing for April 21 even as the arguments on framing charges were to be carried out today. Singh is charged in connection with two murder cases and a case of alleged rape of a disciple.
Earlier, taking to reporters, Prakash said he was ready for the arguments on framing charges. He said the defence did not want to delay the case in any manner as alleged by the CBI. The arrival of the Dera chief here was kept a secret by the police. The defence counsel was also not aware of the temporary shifting of the court at Police Lines. The road was sealed and nobody was allowed to pass through the route.
Recently, the Sirsa-based Singh's convoy had come under attack in Karnal district when he was returning after a court appearance in Ambala. But he escaped unhurt. Singh reached the court today at around 11.10 am. One dozen black coloured land cruiser vehicles were part of his convoy of 50 cars.
Around six police vans escorted Singh's convoy. Senior police and administrative officials were also present in the court while the proceedings of the case were going on. Thousands of Dera followers had gathered in the HUDA ground here like earlier occasions, but unlike in the past the administration did not allow the Dera chief to go there and address them.
