The Himachal Pradesh High Court today directed the Centre and state government to file fresh status report on or before August 1 in a matter pertaining to encroachments on both sides of the Shimla-Kalka national highway.
During the hearing of the matter, it was brought to the notice of the court that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has complied with the directions passed by the court from time to time and was doing its best. The NHAI has filed fresh status report and informed the court that it has removed 175 encroachments out of 280. The court also directed the state authorities to remove all the encroachments from Chambaghat-Solan to Dhalli- Shimla and handover the same to the NHAI.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on a petition taken up suo motu by the court as public interest litigation on a news item published in newspapers regarding illegal encroachment on both sides of the Shimla-Kalka national highway. The state had filed status report in this matter in which the details of all the encroachers, which have made encroachments at Barog and all national highways, were given.
