Mumbai: A mild tremor measuring magnitude 3.9 on the Richter scale struck Latur, Parbhani and other parts of Marathwada region and western Maharashtra Monday morning.

The earthquake brought back ghastly memories of the massive September 30, 1993 earthquake that measured 7.4 on the Richter Scale, and killed approximately 20,000 people and injuring an estimated 30,000.

Although there were no reports of casualties from the affected areas, people rushed out of their homes, fearing aftershocks.

On a day when the toll in the landslides triggered by Sunday's powerful earthquake mounted steadily in Sikkim and other part of north and north-east India, tremors were recorded at 6.22am at latitude 18.8 degree north and longitude 76.8 degree east.
