Twenty-five Panchayats in Haryana collectively issued a diktat not to pay electricity bills this summer because they allege that they hardly get electricity for four hours a day.

Anyone who violates the diktat will be fined Rs 1100 and he will have to organise a feast for 100 villagers. The violator will also face social boycott.

It was a rare meeting of the Panchayat heads of 25 villages of Ambala district and at the end they decided not to pay their electricity bills till supply improves.

Kailash Chand, a Panchyat member of Adoya village said, ''If we don't get electricity we won't pay. We all have decided villages will stick to this collective decision.''

Dharam Veer, a villager said, ''Panchayats decision is correct, why should we pay if we don't get electricity.''

The district administration said that it will take action against those instigating people not to pay their power bills.

Mohd Shayin, Deputy Commissioner, Ambala said, ''We will take proper action against those who do not pay their dues also we will take action against those who are propagating wrong thing.''

With summer setting in power supply will get worse as it always does and villagers don't expect the government to react soon.
