After being invited by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel for “talks” on the reservation issue, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel again postponed his “reverse Dandi yatra”, scheduled for today, to September 15.
A spokesperson for the state government said the Chief Minister had invited Patel to Gandhinagar for talks tomorrow. The PAAS cancelled the yatra after Energy Minister Saurabh Patel late last night informed Hardik about the CM’s invitation for talks on reservation.
Announcing the cancellation of the rally, which if taken out would have been illegal as the state government had refused it permission, PAAS spokesman Alpesh Kathiria said a decision to revive the 350-km yatra from Dandi to Sabarmati Ashram would be taken if the talks with the CM fail. It was the second time the PAAS cancelled the yatra — both times at the last moment. On September 6, the yatra was cancelled to “give the government time” to reconsider and grant it permission for the rally.
Though the state government had yesterday turned down its plea for permission for the rally, the PAAS had “resolved” to take out the rally defying the government ban “come what may”. It had even threatened to launch a “jail bharo andolan” across the state.
