Governor KK Paul today honoured outstanding MLAs of the state Assembly from 2010 to 2013.
Jot Singh Gunsola was given the outstanding MLA award for 2010, Amrita Rawat for 2011, Madan Kaushik 2012 and Indira Hridayesh for 2013.
The Governor, while addressing a gathering at the award ceremony, expressed hope that the award would prove an inspiration for maintaining parliamentary traditions in the Assembly.
He said the government and the opposition were the two main pillars and both were important. “The government implements policies for public welfare and the opposition keeps an eye on them, attracting the government’s attention to the flaws,” he added.
The Governor said all members of the Assembly or Parliament were responsible for maintaining the dignity and discipline of the House. Each member should keep in mind that opponents could be right. Patience and modesty should be the feelings that could help each member conduct himself well.
He said when the President came and addressed the Vidhan Sabha here this year, he had said that there should be discussions, debates and decisions in the Assembly and not obstacles created.
The Governor said legislatures were the reflections of the aspirations of the common man. The people rule through their representatives in the Assembly, and thus the members of the Assembly had great responsibility on their shoulders.
He said the question hour was an important time during the course of the Assembly proceedings and there should be an effort to utilise it fully. He said people had great expectations from members of the Vidhan Sabha. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt and Lok Sabha former general secretary GC Malhotra also expressed their views.
