GUJARAT BLASTS: HUJI CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY, 3 MORE BOMBS FOUND

Surat July 31:
After the Indian Mujahideen, Harakat ul-Jihad-I-Islami (HuJI) has also claimed responsibility for the Ahmedabad blasts. Gujarati TV channel TV9 received a letter from HuJI in which they claimed responsibility for the blasts.
Meanwhile, another bomb has been found in the Heera Bazaar of Surat. The bomb was later defused by the bomb squad. The Indian Mujahideen had also written e-mails to several media houses claiming responsibility of the blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
The police on Tuesday recovered and defused around 18 bombs and confiscated 2 explosives laden cars from Surat. The discovery of bombs has continued with another bomb found in the Heera Bazaar of Surat. This is the 3rd live bomb recovered today in the Diamond City alone. Earlier a bomb was found in the Prestige Market at Varacha area in Surat. The bomb was found hanging on a tree. The bomb was later defused by the bomb squad.
An explosive was detected at Baroda Prestige Market in Varacha area, about 500 metres from Labeshwar Chowk where Modi had gone for a first-hand assessment. Another bomb was found in Nana Varacha area hanging from a tree close to the Surat Municipal Corporation swimming pool.
The third bomb was located inside a bag filled with clothes at Hirabazar area of Mahidharpura locality, police said. Once again it was a local resident who informed police about the bomb. Meanwhile, 25 teams of ATS have started their investigations into the Ahmedabad blasts. The Mumbai crime branch has also assured its assistance to the ATS teams investigating the blasts case.
Panic continued to grip Surat today after a 19th live bomb was found on the busy Varacha Road in the morning. While the bomb recovered in the Prestige Market has been defused, its recovery coincided with Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the diamond city. As many as 18 live bombs were recovered and defused in various parts of the city yesterday.
After visiting the places from where live bombs were recovered, Modi said that terrorists were waging a proxy war against India and stressed on the need to unite as a country to fight the menace of terror. He praised the people of the diamond city for being alert and finding as many as 18 live bombs before they could go off.
“The people of Surat have set an example for the whole of India,” Modi said. A team of Gujarat Police today headed for Navi Mumbai after cars used in Ahmedabad serial blasts and an e-mail were traced to that area even as 10 people, who were earlier associated with SIMI, were detained in Bharuch.
"We have sent a team of our officials to Navi Mumbai. The team, in cooperation with Maharashtra Police, will find out details of the cars and e-mail," said Crime Branch (City) chief and JCP Ashish Bhatia, who is heading the probe. Bhatia said teams of Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan police are also in Ahmedabad to assist the investigating agencies.
