Gujarat BJP man accused of molesting girl on flight, held

Ahmedabad: A BJP functionary in Ahmedabad was arrested and sent to a two-day police remand on Tuesday for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old-girl on a late-night Goa-Ahmedabad flight on May 28.
The girl's parents' complaint said vice-president of BJP's Gandhinagar city unit Ashok Makwana indecently touched her legs and elbowed her several times during the flight.
The girl also said that he had asked for her mobile number using various gestures. She was returning alone from Goa after a holiday. Makwana, 41, along with five other BJP workers, had gone to Goa to unwind after the recent civic body's elections.
Makwana, who was appointed vice-president of BJP's Gandhinagar city unit ten days ago, claimed innocence and said he was asleep, and his elbow might have accidentally touched her.
"We will question him further," said police officer V R Patel.
Makwana had shifted to a seat near the girl, sources said and added since it was a late-night flight, half the seats were vacant. Police booked Makwana under under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act.
