Graft case: Two punjab IPS officers in dock

Chandigarh May 7:

Two Indian Police Services (IPS) officers of Punjab are also in dock for being involved in corruption case, in which the Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested Punjab’s Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Raj Khurana and a senior officer Devinder Singh Bittu on Thursday.

A highly placed source on Friday revealed that two IPS officers serving in Punjab are deeply involved in this corruption case and likely to be charged under corruption charges soon. One of these has been informed to be earlier working as a liaison officer with the Congress.

These officers are in the hit list prepared by the CBI following series of investigations in which they found the involvement of these two IPS officers. Sources revealed that these two IPS officers had helped hand in taking bribe of `1.5 crore, which was fixed after negotiations with the complainant from earlier bribe amount of `2 crore.

CPS and Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Raj Khurana and a senior officer of registrar Divender were arrested on Thursday for their alleged involvement in taking bribe of `1.5 crore from the secretary of an association in the lieu of closing the old case.

Khurana and Devinder were sent to two-day remand on Thrusday by special CBI Judge Ritu Tagore. During the court proceedings, CBI lawyer PC Dogra also informed about involvement of a Punjab Industry Minister Manoranjan Kalia.

Devinder had threatened that in case of non-payment of the bribe, the control of the association shall be taken over by the Government and a criminal case would be registered against its office-bearers. And before, he said the complainant that he had approached a Punjab Minster through Khurana for closing the case.

CBI officials had laid a trap, conducted raids at their respective houses and booked both under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Khurana, who represents Rajpura constituency in Punjab Assembly, is the chief parliamentary secretary, finance, in the SAD-BJP alliance Government led by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
