A local family, which claims that deaf-mute girl Geeta is their daughter, has been left dejected by the DNA test report that has failed to establish their blood ties with her.
Janardan Mahto and his wife Shanti Devi, residents of Ramesh Nagar, Tibba road, urged the Union government to make efforts to find their daughter Heera Mani, who had gone missing in 2005. The couple said they would pray for Geeta’s reunion with her real family.
Vinod, who claims to be Geeta’s brother, said officials in the foreign ministry had informed them on the phone about the DNA report, which had been despatched to their address.
He added that Geeta, who returned from Pakistan last month, resembled his sister Heera. Geeta had initially identified photos of Mahto’s family, sent to her in Pakistan through the foreign ministry, as those of her own family members, but when she arrived in India, she denied the same.
Panipat-based advocate Momin Malik, who played a key role in bringing Geeta from Pakistan, said he would contact the police chiefs of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and ask them to gather data of deaf-mute girls who had gone missing 10 to 12 years ago. He added that the government should give financial help to Geeta so she could start her life afresh.
