Shimla February 28:
Higher hills in Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snowfall as intense cold wave sweeping the state continued unabated though day temperatures rose by a few notches in some places.
Tourist resort Manali was covered with a thick white sheet as Solang, Mari, Koksar and Rohtang Pass received 30 to 50 cm of snow overnight. Shimla had five-cm of snowing as the mercury dipped to a low of 0.6 degrees celsius in the state capital. However, the maximum rose to settle at 12 degrees.
The Manali-Leh highway has been cleared of snow up to Palchan, some five-km from here, and sports enthusiasts are making a beeline to Solang ski slopes. More than 40-ft of snow had been deposited on the sprawling Pir Panjal range this winter, a report from Manali said. Solan, Bhuntar and Dharamsala registered lows of 2.7, 3.3 and 3.7 degrees celsius respectively.
