Four jawans killed in battery blast in Jalandhar Cantonement

JALANDHAR: Four jawans were on Tuesday night killed in a blast in a battery in the motor transport section of Jalandhar Cantonment area.
The explosion took place at about 9:15pm(local time) when some jawans were working in the section when a battery meant for charging vehicles went off triggering a blaze, Naresh Vig, Public Relations Officer of the Army, said.
The identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained, he said adding senior army officials rushed to the spot and fire tenders were pressed into service to control the fire.
Vig said investigation by experts was on to ascertain the cause of the blast.
