Four bookies nabbed, 30 mobile sets seized

The police has nabbed four bookies from Chahar Bagh area here for their involvement in cricket betting and seized 30 sophisticated mobile sets from their possession late last night.

ADCP Crime Raj Pal Singh Sandhu told reporters that on a tip-off, a team of the CIA police staff led by Inspector Satish Malhotra raided the venue of operation of betting and arrested four people indulged in cricket betting business.

He said the accused were identified as Vikas Khanna, Balwinder Singh Monti, Rahul Sharma and Ajay Arora. The police had also seized some account books in which details of the people who made bids for the prominent players of both Indian and South African teams were mentioned.

As many as 30 cell phones were recovered, some of which were kept for recording the voice of bidders so that after the end of the match, the bidders did not refuse the bid, the ADCP said. A case under section 420 of the IPC (gambling act) had been registered against the accused, the ADCP added.
