Five grenades recovered from Mohali, city to host IPL match

Mohali: A day before the city is to host an IPL match, five "Pakistan-made" hand grenades were today seized from the district following the arrest of a terrorist belonging to Babbar Khalsa International but police said there was no threat to the event.

The grenades were recovered from Siswan village in Mullanpur town in the district, about 14 km from the Punjab Cricket Association stadium where Kings XI Punjab will take on Rajasthan Royals tomorrow.

The recovery was made on the basis of information provided by BKI terrorist Purshotam Singh alias Pamma during interrogation following his arrest last week.

Mohali's Superintendent of Police Varinderpal Singh told reporters here that the grenades were made in Pakistan and have an imprint of 'P-86' on them.

He said that so far the police had not found any threat to the PCA stadium, though foolproof security arrangements were already in place here.

Nearly 1600 police personnel, including 34 DSPs and six SPs, have been deployed to ensure tight security in and around the stadium for the T-20 event.

Pamma was arrested along with Daljit Kumar alias Deepak from Zirakpur on late Thursday night with alleged hawala money of Rs1 lakh, a .455 bore revolver and 3 live cartridges.

Next day, their alleged hawala agent Karwinder Singh was arrested from Delhi.
