First Sikh Women IPS officer

AMRITSAR: The first IPS officer of Punjab cader Gurpreet Kaur Deo Saturday joined as DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Border Range Amritsar. She is also first woman officer to join in the rank of DIG in Punjab.
Gurpreet Kaur Deo would look after five districts Amritsar Urban, Tarn Taran, Amritsar Rural, Batala and Gurdaspur. She had earlier worked as Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) in Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur districts beside SP Jalandhar and SP Vigilance. Born in 1968, she did her BSC in Biophysics from Punjab University Chandigarh, thereafter LLB from the same university. She joined IPS Punjab cadre in 1993 and her first posting was ASP at Patiala.
After assuming charge she said that she was proud that this is first time in the history of Punjab Police that any woman officer has got chance to serve as DIG. She said that State Government had given her privilege to perform duty being a senior most woman IPS officer in the State.
