FINGERS RAISED OVER BHAGAT SINGH'S STATUE
Ludhiana August 17:
The city residents are demanding justice for the great martyrs Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev who have been ignored as lone statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh has been installed in the Parliament.
No doubt people have great love and affection for their hero Shaheed Bhagat Singh but people find it difficult to imagine him without his friends who supported him till their last breath. The city residents are taking it as an insult to the great heroes and demanding the authorities to install their statues along with Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Punjab deputy speaker Satpal Gosain said since Shaheed Bhagat Singh played greater role so he had been given place in the Parliament House but added it would be pleasant if the statues of Sukhdev and Rajguru are also placed.
Jagmohan Singh, nephew of Bhagat Singh agreed to the point. He appreciated this step taken by the government, but at the same time said it had changed his identity as it was difficult to imagine him without his friends who were hanged with him. He added that the government must acknowledge the fact and install the statues of Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev next to him.
President of Knitwear Club, Vinod K Thapar said the unveiling of the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in the Parliament was a welcome step and an acknowledgment of the aspirations and sentiments of people. He also voiced the same concern that his other two contemporaries should not have been overlooked.
General secretary of Freedom Fighter Successors Organization of India, Narotam Diwan said the government had done a very good job but an incomplete one as the other two contemporaries of Shaheed Bhagat Singh were equally important where the significant March 23 is concerned.
