LUDHIANA: A daring robbery in the heart of city in the wee hours of Monday set alarm bells ringing as far as Gurgaon.

Apparently, the break-in triggered an alarm in Muthoot Finance company’s head office in Gurgaon which was noticed in the morning and the police informed.

Following the lead, a posse of police immediately rushed to the company’s office and discovered the heist. Gold worth Rs 2.80 crore and cash around Rs 3 lakh was found missing from the premises located on the second floor of Jhandu Tower on Millerganj road here.

SSP RK Jaiswal, who visited the spot along with a dog squad and fingerprint and forensic experts, and his team questioned the company employees for over six hours but did not allow mediapersons inside the premises.

They also remained tightlipped about the whole situation and avoided media queries, saying "investigations are going on".

Hinting at an "insider" job, the SSP told mediapersons that the robbers, an unspecified number, had entered the office by opening the locks at the entrance.

They did not touch any other document in the office, but the gold jewellery, mortgaged by customers who took loan from the company, and the cash lying in the safe.
