The Centre is discriminating against Punjab by not lifting procured paddy stocks from the previous season, which will lead to storage shortage for the kharif season currently underway.

This was stated by BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna while talking to TNS. He alleged that the FCI was deliberately not clearing the stocks to discredit the state government once the paddy crop arrived in mandis in the next few months.

A visit to the open storage godowns in the state would reveal that over 50 per cent of stocks from the previous season were yet to lifted by the agency.

He said the state government had time and again asked the FCI to clear all previous stocks, but to no avail.

The monsoon would take toll on the quality of paddy that had been stocked in low-lying areas and in the open. Already, the state was trying to get relaxation for paddy milled in the state with a little success, he added.

On the working of the state party unit plagued by an intense infighting, he said they were all working to raise issues of public interest and were united under their state chief to ensure the victory of the SAD- BJP combine in the Assembly poll.
