A 22-day-old girl died early on Monday at a private hospital in Nethaji Nagar. The infant's death had occurred weeks after her mother's death due to post-delivery complications including excessive bleeding.
Meanwhile, the girl's father is now in Puzhal prison after he was remanded in a case of attacking the hospital where the girl was born. The father had turned violent on hearing rumours that his newborn had died in the hospital.
According to police, Anandi (20) of Tondiarpet was admitted to a private hospital in Nethaji Nagar for labour last month. The doctors operated on her and she gave birth to a girl. But Anandi had to be rushed to the government maternity hospital in Egmore as she suffered excessive bleeding. She died the day after in the government hospital.
Meanwhile, Anandi's husband Mariappan and some of her relatives refused to accept the body and demanded action against the private hospital authorities holding them responsible for his wife's death. The child, who was underweight, was admitted to a private hospital in Vadapalani.
