While those living alongside the Jalandhar bypass are opposing their eviction for constructing a bypass on the National Highway No. 1, a few farmers of various villages in the district have set an example of sorts by giving their agricultural land for development of the Laddowal bypass to the government free of cost.

Acquisitions of private land for development projects always evokes protests from the affected persons but farmers of these villages have readily left 40 square feet of land for the project being undertaken by the PWD (B & R) and not accepted even a single penny in return.
Farmers of Churahpur, Balloke, Laddian Kalan and Barewal Dogran have given 40 square feet of their agricultural fields when it could be sold for Rs 2 crore per acre in this belt.
Among them is a government official who has also left the land for the project in the Balloke village. District Development and Panchayat Officer, Mahinder Singh Grewal is among scores of farmers, who motivated several farmers to donate their land.
"After all it was for a development project. I told the farmers that if a road was going to be constructed, it was only for their benefit. They readily agreed. Now, we are just waiting for the project to be completed," added Grewal.
Another farmer, Gurdeep Singh, who also gave his land, said they decided not to protest against this project. And it is going to see the light of the day soon.
The 9.25 km stretch of Laddowal bypass, starting from the Haibowal Dairy Complex will help commuters from Moga, Jagraon and residents from outer city areas to reach Jalandhar without passing through the mad rush of city.
The project being carried out with the help of NABARD would be completed within six months. Work has already started with the PWD removing the earth at several places. The road would pass through the Haibowal dairy complex and a few villages, including Balloke, Chuharpur, Laddian Kalan, and Barewal Dogran before finally connecting it with the GT Road from Laddowal. It was a long pending demand of commuters who had to cross the entire city to reach Phillaur and Jalandhar. It would also help in easing the flow of the traffic.
