Fake currency worth 5.65 lakh seized, four nabbed

SSP Rakesh Aggarwal, while addressing mediapersons here, claimed to have busted a racket of fake Indian currency by arresting four persons, Satnam Singh of Sadhowal village (Hoshiarpur), Kuldip Singh, alias Bunty, of Garhshankar (Hoshiarpur), Aslam of Guliar village in Una and Ram Bulf Chauhan of Jagannathpur, Parsa (Nepal).

The police has seized fake Indian currency worth Rs 5.65 lakh from their possession. Aggarwal said a police party, led by DSP Satpal Singh Bhangu, on July 25 got information that Satnam Singh of Sadhpur village, along with fake Indian currency, was waiting for a customer on the Mehndipur-Gujjarpur link road on the Nawanshahr-Garhshankar Road.

SHO (City) Raj Kumar, along with the police party and a witness, Jaspal Singh, alias Nindi, conducted a raid and nabbed Satnam. Fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 60,000 was seized from his possession. Further as per information given by Satnam, another gang member Kuldip Singh was nabbed along with fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 9,500 seized from him here at Dasehra Ground. On the information given by Kuldip Singh, the police again conducted a raid today and nabbed Aslam Mohammad and Rambulf Chauhan from the Mehndipur-Gujjarpur link road. Fake Indian currency of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 3.96 lakh was seized from Aslam and Rambulf, respectively.

Hence, in total the fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 5.65 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 was seized from the gang members. The SSP said during interrogation it had come to light that the fake currency was being prepared in Pakistan and Singapore and was being brought here through Nepal. In Nepal, fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 1 lakh was available at Rs 25,000 and in India it was being supplied at a cost of Rs 65,000.

The gang members had confessed to have circulated fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 16 lakh. A case, under sections 489 A, B, C of the IPC has been registered at the city police station.
