The date for the Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET) and entrance test for the Jawahar Lal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIP- MER) in Puducherry is the same, giving students a reason to worry.

The date for JIPMER test, set in February, clashes with the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences' PMET on June 6. Some parents whose wards have applied for JIPMER have approached Minister for Medical Education and Research Tikshan Sud and Vice-Chancellor of BFUHS Dr S.S. Gill, but “in vain“.

A city-based doctor whose son applied for JIPMER said the test date was set in February while the last date for submission of forms for PMET is May 28, so “for the sake of future of students, the latter can reschedule the date“.

When contacted, Tikshan Sud said this issue had come up before him but the univer- sity being autonomous it was up to it. “If someone submits a representation, the state gov- ernment will look into the matter,“ he added.

Dr S.S. Gill said it did not matter “as we knew the JIP- MER test date but were help- less“. He claimed no student from Punjab had been select- ed in JIPMER and the resched- uling could not be possible. “We have a test for more than 7,000 students and if 100 want to appear in JIPMER, they can,“ he added.
