Chandigarh September 24:
Now you would not need to wait for receiving money order for several days as Department of Posts is going to start Electronic mode of money order system in Punjab next month which will allow money order reaching the same day.
“With the introduction of electronic money order system, the money orders can reach within 24 hours against 3 to 7 days being taken in conventional money order practice,” Chief Postmaster General, Punjab and UT Chandigarh, Prithvi Raj Kumar told reporters here.
Significantly, customers would not be charged any additional sum for this service. “The customers will have to pay just 5 per cent of the value of the order as they are currently paying in traditional money order system,” he said. “The post office will book money orders electronically for other connected post office and both of these offices would be linked through central computer system and allow faster transfer of money,” he said. On revamping of the post offices in the state, he said under the project Arrow, the select post offices of Punjab would be revamped in respect of working environment, work culture, layout of building and computerization. “By end of this year, select post offices will be revamped and it will entail outlay of Rs. 5-6 lakh per office,” he said.
