Phagwara (Punjab), April 11: Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue intelligence (DRI) Friday recovered cocaine and heroin worth Rs.1 bn from Punjab town.
The recovery included 3 kg of cocaine and 11 kg of heroin.
The cocaine recovery was made from a house in industrial town of Phagwara after a youth was arrested by DRI officials at Doraha town, 35 km from here, Friday with 11 kg of heroin.
The DRI officials arrested two youths in this connection, including leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) youth wing, Navjot Arora.
Only two days back, the Kapurthala police had recovered 50 kg of heroin worth Rs.500 million from three people in a car near here. One of those arrested was a former Punjab terrorist.
In February this year, the Punjab police officials here had recovered 1.8 kg of cocaine from another drugs smuggler.
DRI officials say that most of the drugs are coming into India through the Afghanistan-Pakistan route.
The officials say that the consignments of drugs being sent into Punjab were linked to an international drugs racket. The DRI and Punjab police officials are looking at a possible drugs-terror link.
