Drug charges against Asif dropped: reports

Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif's detention in Dubai was result of a misunderstanding and charges of possessing contraband drugs against the pacer has been dropped, according to Pakistan Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Ahsan Ullah Khan.


Khan claimed a misunderstanding led to Asif's detention in Dubai airport on Sunday on his way home from Mumbai after the pacer participated in the Indian Premier League.


Pakistan newspaper Dawn newspaper quoted Khan as saying that the misunderstanding has been cleared and charges have been dropped against the pacer.


The report said that Asif would be released soon and the player would board the first available flight home.


Asif's lawyers were in constant touch with the Dubai prosecution office and the Pakistani missions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai provided all the required helps to Asif, Khan said.
