Double delight for Pranjala Vadlapalli

Pranjala Yadlapalli of Andhra Pradesh enjoyed a double delight by winning the girls under-12 and under-16 singles in the CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here.

A trainee of CLTA Sumitpal Singh from Jammu and Kashmir and Gagan Sharma of Rajasthan claimed the boys under-12 and under-16 titles, respecctively. Pranjala Yadlapalli wore a golden double in a contrasting style. In the girls under-12 singles final, the top seed Andhra Pradesh girl had a smooth sailing against fourth seed Nandini Sharma, a former trainee of CLTA and shifted to Punjab, in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Later fourth seed Pranjala Yadlapalli overcame a stiff resistance from giant-killer sixth seed Vanshika Sawhney of Delhi in the girls under-16 singles final. The match was decided in three sets. Pranjala and Vanshika were in a neck-and-neck fight in the first set which Pranjala won in tie-breaker 7-6 (3). Vanshika then hit back to win the next set at 6-2 to level the score at one-all. It was a do-or-die battle in the third and deciding set which was extended to tie-breaker. Pranjala Yadlapalli just managed to win it at 7-6 (4) and the crown.

After losing the first set at 1-6, CLTA trainee Sumitpal Singh rallied to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the boys under-12 final. Gagan Sharma of Rajasthan defeated Jajbir Singh of Punjab in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the boys under-16 final.

Girls Under-12: Pranjala Yadlapalli (AP) bt Nandini Sharma (PB) 6-2, 6-2.
Girls Under-16: Pranjala Yadlapalli (AP) bt Vanshika Sawhney (DLI) 7-6 (3), 2-6, 7-6 (4).
