Head of Dera Sachkhand Ballan Sant Niranjan Dass was today not allowed to enter a temple in Varanasi during the 15-minute visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM’s visit was planned by Union Minister Vijay Sampla to cash in on the sentiments of nearly one lakh Punjabis, who annually gather at the temple at Seer Govardhan there.
Niranjan Dass wanted to enter the premises from the pandal outside after the PM arrived, but he was not allowed to go in by the SPG despite repeated requests. By the time security allowed him in, the PM had left.
Dass, who has his dera in Jalandhar, is also managing the temple at Varanasi. The BSP leaders reportedly raised slogans showing solidarity with the Sant.
Sampla admitted to the faux pas. "The security persons later apologised to the Sant. The PM was, however, attended by Sant Mandeep Dass from the temple there. The BSP unduly tried to take a mileage out of it."
