Day after Mayor’s raid, two cops suspended

A day after city Mayor Poonam Sharma raided and caught at least 12 persons while allegedly gambling in Maloya, the UT police suspended the SHO of the Sector 39 police station, Ranjodh Singh, and the in charge of the Maloya police post, Sub-Inspector Ranjit Singh, for failing to check gambling in the area.
According to an order issued by the UT SSP, both officers have been placed under suspension and sent to the Police Lines, Sector 26.
Inspector Chiranji Lal, posted in the crime branch, has been given the charge of the SHO, Sector 39 police station.
Sub-Inspector Mahinder Singh, additional SHO, Sector 39 police station, has been given the charge of the Maloya police post.
Acting on a tip-off, the Mayor, along with two other women, went to the area near the Radha Soami Satsang Bhawan where “satta” was being played. The Mayor bolted both rooms from outside and then informed the police about the gambling.
According to her, the suspects tried to destroy evidence by burning registers and paper slips inside the room, but somehow the police managed to get some records from the two rooms.
Inspector Chiranji Lal said nine persons were arrested for gambling and were later released on bail.
Sent to Police Lines
