A mob today set two Haryana Roadways buses on fire over the murder of a Dalit youth at Sadalpur village in Adampur block of the district. The angry villagers also blocked road for around six hours.
Vinod Kumar was shot dead by a group of assailants at the village on Thursday night. The villagers assembled on the road with victim’s body and resorted to violence this morning. They accused the police of failing to curb crime in the area.
Heavy police force was deployed at the village in view of tension. Superintendent of Police Satender Gupta later visited the scene to assess the situation.
The youth’s body was cremated after a post mortem in the evening.
Sources said Vinod had a scuffle with accused Anil Pandit at a patrol station on Thursday evening. Pandit along with his accomplices later went to dairy farm where Vinod was staying and shot him.
Villagers alleged Pandit was involved in several criminal activities but the police had failed to nab him.
The SP said one of the accused, Praveen, had been arrested and four teams formed to arrest Anil Pandit, Anoop and others.
A case of arson and rioting has been registered against villagers, the officer said.
