A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here framed corruption charges against S.K. Sekhri, the former zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh.
Sekhri was arrested by the CBI Sep 6 last year, for accepting a bribe of Rs.200,000 from the owner of a Himachal Pradesh-based pharmaceutical company in Delhi. Special CBI Judge Darshan Singh will hear the case Jan 24-25, 2011. Sekhri is not the only NCB official to be prosecuted for an offence.
Sekhri's predecessor and Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Saji Mohan was arrested by Mumbai Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) with 12 kg heroin from a Mumbai suburb Jan 25 last year. A case of misappropriation of public money filed by Chandigarh police is also pending against Mohan.
Another official of the NCB, inspector Ravi Kant Pawar was arrested by the CBI in 2007 after he was caught demanding a bribe of nearly Rs.2 crore from an Israeli. In the same case, an NCB constable Paramjit Singh was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000 from the accused's relative in 2008.
