CONSTABLE SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPT TO MURDER
Chandigarh March 30:
A former Punjab Police constable Malkiat Singh and his friend Ram, a tea vendor, was found guilty of attempt to murder by a local court today and sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 500 each.
Malkiat Singh and his friend were arrested by the police in January 2000 on a complaint registered by Dr Ramesh, veterinary doctor, who was allegedly attacked and injured by the duo.
As per the allegations, the accused attacked the complainant with a sharp-edged weapon. The accused had pleaded innocence saying they were falsely implicated in the case.
