Constable 'rapes' 60-year-old pilgrim on boat at Sangam

A police constable allegedly raped a 60-year-old pilgrim on a boat in Sangam on Sunday night. The constable lured the woman on the pretext of showing her the night view of Sangam and left her there after allegedly raping her.
The woman lodged a complaint with Daraganj police on Monday. An FIR was lodged against the accused under Section 376 of IPC. The incident took place when preparations were going on at Sangam for creating a pond for immersion of Durga idols.
The woman pilgrim had came from Firozabad district alone on Sunday to take a holy dip in the river. The constable identified as Ramesh Mishra (40) is posted as a driver in Civil Lines police station.

On Sunday night, the woman was reportedly having a nap in the locality when Mishra approached her and said that she was in a prohibited zone and action can be taken against her.
When the woman asked him where to sit, he started talking to her and gained her confidence. The constable told her that she could have a 'darshan' and night view of the Sangam on a boat to which she agreed. Mishra took her to Sangam and allegedly raped her.
The woman narrated her ordeal to residents of the area on Monday morning. They took her to the police station. An FIR was lodged against the constable in the evening.
Inspector Daraganj Shailendra Singh said that an FIR has been registered against the accused under Section 376 of IPC.
