CONG WALKS OUT OF PUNJAB ASSEMBLY

Chandigarh March 25:
The Opposition Congress on Monday staged a walkout in Punjab Assembly in protest against rejecting their demand for a discussion on heroin smuggling by one youth leader of the SAD.
Leader of the Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal during Zero Hour raised the issue of seizure of 22 kg of heroin in Amritsar on Sunday by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and subsequent arrest of an Akali Dal leader. Bhattal said it was shocking that Punjab Police was sleeping over the issue even though reports of large scale smuggling of drugs in the State have been appearing in newspapers.
CM Parkash Singh Badal, however, intervened to inform that Punjab Police had also seized three kg heroin on Sunday. Sukhpal Singh Khaira supported Bhattal seeking special discussion on the issue. Brahm Mohindra sought an assurance that probe into heroin smuggling would not be influenced. Soon after Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon declined permission for the discussion, the Congress members walked out raising anti-Government slogans.
