Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that the Congress would organise a major rally on March 23 at Khatkar Kalan in Nawashahar district, which would be addressed by several central leaders.
"The rally would also mark the martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh will herald the beginning of the final and decisive electoral battle in Punjab which will finally see the Akali-BJP alliance off," said Captain Singh.
Addressing a meeting of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) secretaries, joint secretaries and organising secretaries at the Congress Bhawan here, Captain Amarinder said that the rally would effectively mark the beginning of the second phase of the public rallies across the State in Assembly segments.
Emphasising that the secretaries and organising secretaries had a special role to play in the coming days, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president hailed their courage for having faced the onslaught of the Akali-BJP Government during the last four years. He congratulated them for upholding the party's flag against all odds particularly when the Akali-BJP Government was hell bent on victimising every prominent Congress workers.
Assuring them that he would always be around, Captain Singh told the Pradesh Congress Committee secretaries that the worst was over and the time had come to hold the Akalis accountable for their actions particularly the victimisation and the reign of terror they let loose on Congress workers.
"Now is the chance to work hard and defeat them and hold them in dock," Captain Singh observed, while adding that he was confident that with such enthusiasm and high morale among the workers, the Congress was certain to storm to power in the state in the coming elections which could be held anytime now.
PCC president asked the party leaders that they should regularly visit the party office at Chandigarh where he will always be available to them. "I will always be here and if and when you need be anywhere else in the State I will be there at your beck and call," he told a cheering crowd of party leaders, who said they had been invited to meet the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president for the first time in so many years.
Prominent among those present Lal Singh, Kewal Dhillon, Arvind Khanna, Jeet Mohinder Sidhu, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Gobind Khatra, Ratna, Ramesh Singla, Dharampal Agnihotri and others.
