Can Israel's Prime Minister call the shots on American foreign policy? In a shocking statement, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that his intervention ensured that US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice abstained from a key UN vote on the Gaza war.
Olmert said, "She (Rice) was left shamed. In a resolution that she prepared and arranged, she did not vote in favour in the end."
Olmert further elaborated how it worked. He spoke about how President Bush answered his call even though he was in the midst of giving a speech in Philadelphia.
He said, "I need to talk to Bush now. He got off the podium and spoke to me. He immediately called the Secretary of State and told her not to vote in favour."
