Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today cautioned people against handing over power of attorney to those who had exploited them by buying land from them at lower cost and selling it at higher cost to the project authorities.
Referring to land acquisition for Renuka dam, he said the government was looking into the irregularities committed by a few people in the Opposition. He said they would ensure that adequate compensation was paid to actual landowners whenever land was acquired for development projects.
He was addressing a gathering at Sangrah in Sirmaur district today. Referring to Rajeev Bindal, BJP MLA from Nahan, he said people should not fall prey to his tactics as such politicians lured people and took advantage of schemes or development works.
The Chief Minister handed over papers of three biswas of ‘nautor’ land to 12 eligible people of the area . He said 48 people had been provided land under this policy so far.
He said the state government was committed to providing quality education to the youth. He said of the 94 colleges in the state, 90 had been opened during Congress regimes. He said Rs 22 crore would be spent on construction of additional blocks of the government college in Nahan.
He said the government would strengthen the health sector and apart from two existing medical colleges in the state, three more colleges would be made operational soon as budgetary provision of Rs 189 crore was available.

He said its initial project cost was Rs 8 crore, but it escalated to Rs 16 crore due to non-completion of the work in a time-bound manner.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of a mini-secretariat and a water supply scheme for Sangrah to be completed with an outlay of Rs 2 crore. The scheme, when completed, would benefit more than 4,200 people of 12 habitations of three panchayats
