CM: Sahastradhara will be a major tourist spot soon

The state government is committed to developing Sahastradhara as a major tourist destination.
This was stated by Chief Minister Harish Rawat after laying the foundation stone of a parking lot at Sahastradhara here today.
He said they would rope in local people to manage the parking lot in order to provide employment opportunities to them.
The Chief Minister said projects worth Rs 100 crore had been sanctioned for Mussoorie in the last one year. The government was making efforts to create an artificial lake at Sahastradhara and a survey in this regard would be carried out soon. He said the government would seek the help of local people in development projects.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the local cuisine would be served at roadside dhabas and restaurants. The shops of traditional handicrafts would be set up on various state highways.
He added although connecting roads had been constructed in most of the villages, they were yet to be made the centre of agricultural production. Most of the goods were still being procured from outside, which was leading to the loss of revenue.
The Chief Minister said the government was trying to promote local food by introducing some changes in the existing policy. It would help revive the local economy, he said.
He added efforts were underway to provide livelihood opportunities to the rural population for their sustainable development. The government had also introduced a water bonus policy for water conservation.
Earlier, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, while addressing the gathering, said the Sahastradhara parking lot was being constructed at a cost of Rs 27.78 crore. It could accommodate 120 cars and 35 buses.
He said provisions had been made for a steel bridge, a restaurant, toilets and a waiting room for drivers. Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi, Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall, former Mussoorie MLA Mussoorie Jot Singh Gunsola and Gorkha Kalyan Parishad vice-president Godavari Thapli were present.
